Angela Merkel ist schon seit 1998 mit Joachim Sauer in zweiter Ehe verheiratet. Sie lernten sich bei der Arbeit kennen, da beide Chemiker sind. Joachim stand ihr während ihrer gesamten politischen Karriere zur Seite, die sie bis zum Amt der Bundeskanzlerin gebracht hat.
