Angela Merkel ist schon seit 1998 mit Joachim Sauer in zweiter Ehe verheiratet. Sie lernten sich bei der Arbeit kennen, da beide Chemiker sind. Joachim stand ihr während ihrer gesamten politischen Karriere zur Seite, die sie bis zum Amt der Bundeskanzlerin gebracht hat. Eine Funktion, die sie von 2005 bis 2021 souverän ausführte und nicht nur im Land, sondern auch international einen guten Ruf hatte. Joachim stand in dieser Zeit immer in ihrem Schatten.
