The first Monday of May is much awaited every year, no doubt. Fashion forward and style experts would know what happens during this time, the Met Gala dawns -- an event that paves way for celebrities to dress to impress and a platform where they can choose to be over the top without people judging, at least for this year’s theme, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”
Clueless spectators were probably shocked with exaggerated looks but those who understand the meaning knows the styles were meant to be that way. If there’s one that stopped the show, it would probably be Lady Gaga, who had not one, not two or even three but four outfit changes on the red carpet as witnessed by the media and onlookers.
Four Outfit Changes
The Grammy Award-winning singer surely knows how to steal the scene as she did not just decide to change costumes in front of the crowd, revealing her carefully put together pieces, but she did so with a full-on characterization and performance along the way.
Lady Gaga first stunned in a long Brandon Maxwell hot pink gown that had to be assisted by five people and then changed to a black dress and then another pink dress. Finally, the last layer would be her sparkly intimates.
As part of her performance, she applied lipstick in one time that she changed and the “Born This Way” singer managed to accessorize herself with some impressive sparklers. What’s new, right? Met Gala is not just anticipated by fashionistas, it also has jewelers and bling aficionados glued attention.
Eye-Grabbing Accessories
So, it’s no surprise that they can spot the most attention-grabbing accessories out there. Out of the many rings that Lady Gaga wore in her performance, one particularly stood out simply because it resembles her engagement ring from her former fiance, Christian Carino. If you didn’t happen to catch a glimpse of which of the rings was it, it was the one she wore on her pinky finger.
The engagement ring, which was estimated to be around $300,000, was definitely hard to miss because of its size and color. According to gemologist Grant Mobley, the band features a rare, pink sapphire that was estimated to be around six carats and diamonds flanking the centerstone were around three carats in total.
WP Diamonds president Andrew Brown presumed that the centerstone was a Padparadscha sapphire, one of the rarest there is, which explains the price. However, the ring Lady Gaga wore to the Met Gala only looked like the engagement and was actually from Tiffany & Co., which also designed her other rings. All in all, the pieces of jewelry reportedly cost $2 million on that day.
Love Story Ending
Lady Gaga discreetly announced her engagement to Christian in October last year during her acceptance speech during Elle’s 25th Annual Women in Hollywood Celebration. At the time, she referred to the man as her fiance, finally confirming long-running rumors about saying “yes” to his then boyfriend. Sadly, their relationship ended before Oscars this year, with a source saying things just didn’t work out.
